Dunkeld & Birnam Golf Club, a beautiful course to play this year with Open Fairways

If you're in the Perthshire area, Scotland through 2018/19 make sure you make the most of your Open Fairways membership and play great golf at this wonderful course.

Dunkeld and Birnam Golf Club was founded in 1892, the original Course, which was on flat ground beside the River Tay, was designed by Old Tom Morris. This was however taken over for trench digging practice in 1914 following which when returned by Government order was only to be for agricultural use.

Officially opened in 1922 by her Grace The Duchess of Atholl the Course has a magnificent heathland setting on a hillside above the historic town of Dunkeld.

The passing decades have seen many improvements made whilst retaining a unique local character. The Course is one of the most picturesque in Perthshire with each hole affording not only a new and interesting challenge for the golfer but also ever changing views of the glorious surrounding countryside.

To the southwest the outlook is over Dunkeld Cathedral and along Strathbraan whilst to the east wide-ranging views encompass Loch of the Lowes where ospreys breed each spring.

On the Course the only disturbance that you may experience will be from deer crossing the fairway, an oystercatcher leaving its nest as you approach or perhaps the plaintive calls of buzzard circling overhead or a curlew gliding into land.

Extended to 18 holes in 2000 the new part of the Course is situated close to Loch of Lowes where the rolling fairways and water features in a more parkland setting add further variety to a most agreeable 9 holes into an excellent and memorable 18.
