In 1936, Girton Golf Club was founded by PGA Professional Allan Gow. He allowed the Club members to purchase the freehold in 1965 and the course was extended to eighteen holes in 1979.

Girton is an easy walking, tight parkland course with mature bushes and trees, which makes for an exceptionally testing game of golf. With greens rated among the best in Cambridgeshire, the five par threes require various length iron shots which must be accurate.

The last three holes are particularly demanding, especially the 18th, which is one of the longest par fives in the country. In 1992 a custom-designed clubhouse was built, and today Girton provides the golfer with a unique combination of course and clubhouse unrivalled in the area.
