The outward nine holes at Haverhill Golf Club were designed by Philip Pilgrey and they are situated on higher undulating ground than the back nine, which was designed by Charles Lawrie.

The inward nine is saucer shaped and disected by a tributary of the River Stour. Throughout the layout accurate iron play is at a premium on narrow fairways and scoring is never straightforward.
