The front nine at Darwen Golf Club is parkland with several ponds on the boundary of Sunnyhurst Woods. In contrast, the back nine rises to a moorland course with magnificent views towards Blackpool and the Fylde Coast. The club is long established at well over one hundred years old and features tricky sloping lies, as several of the holes run along the side of a hill.

The small greens are difficult to hit but there are very few bunkers on the layout. One of the most memorable holes has to be the downhill par 3 16th known as the Postage Stamp - it is 178 yards in length and played from the top of the hill to a small green over a hundred feet below. The club is a favourite with visiting parties due in no small measure to the warmest of Lancashire welcomes.
